Who we are

checksanctions.eu is the operator of this service. For any data protection question, write to hello@checksanctions.eu.

Names you check

A name you enter is personal data about someone else. We do not store it: the comparison happens in memory, and the name itself is never written to any database. What we keep is a one-way hash of the normalised name, computed with a secret key held only on our servers, together with the time of the check, the number of matches it produced, the tier of the closest match, and the dataset version — enough to count usage and detect abuse. Our lawful basis for this is legitimate interest in operating and protecting the service.

This hash cannot be reversed to recover a name nobody already suspected. We do not store the names you search and we cannot reconstruct them. The one narrow exception: someone with access to that secret key who already suspects a specific name could recompute the hash for that name and confirm whether it matches a stored row. Nobody, ourselves included, can start from a stored row and learn whose name it was.

The evidence PDF

The evidence PDF is generated when you request it and sent to you directly. We do not retain a copy. Once you hold it, what happens to it next is up to you.

Your email address

We store your email address when you ask for a PDF, together with the time of that request, as a record of who requested each document. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in keeping that record. We email you news about the service only if you tick the separate, optional box for it. When you do, we record that choice, the exact wording you agreed to and when you agreed, and every such email carries a link to unsubscribe. You can withdraw that consent at any time, and not giving it never affects the PDF. We keep your address until you ask us to delete it, which you can do by replying to any message we send or by writing to hello@checksanctions.eu.

Processors

Three companies process data on our behalf: Vercel Inc., which hosts the service and stores the generated PDFs in transit; Neon Inc., which hosts our database; and Brevo, based in France, which sends our emails. Your data may be processed outside the European Economic Area under the safeguards those providers offer.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your data, and the right to data portability. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority; in Romania, that is the National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing (ANSPDCP).

Cookies and measurement

We set no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. We use privacy-friendly, cookie-free measurement to see how many people use the service; it does not identify you.

Changes

We date this page, and we will update that date whenever it changes.
